ASTM A252 LSAW Steel Pipe Piles
ASTM A252 LSAW Steel Pipe Piles are high-strength, large-diameter tubular structural components designed specifically for deep foundation applications. They serve as permanent load-bearing members or as permanent shells for cast-in-place concrete piles, transferring structural loads through weak or compressible soil strata to more competent bearing layers.

manufacturing process
Produced via the Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) process, commonly using JCOE forming technology. This method involves edge milling, pre-bending, JCO forming, and automated internal and external welding under a protective flux layer, resulting in pipes with high wall thickness consistency and structural integrity.

Note: Hydrostatic testing is not specified by the ASTM A252 for pipe piles, it is carried out only when client requires
Technical Characteristics & Quality Assurance
Chemical Composition: The steels contain controlled levels of elements such as phosphorus (typically ≤0.050%) to ensure weldability and performance.
Minimum Mechanical Test requirements:
Grade 1: Tensile Strength: 50,000 psi (345 MPa); Yield Strength: 30,000 psi (205 MPa).
Grade 2: Tensile Strength: 60,000 psi (415 MPa); Yield Strength: 35,000 psi (240 MPa).
Grade 3: Tensile Strength: 66,000 psi (455 MPa); Yield Strength: 45,000 psi (310 MPa)
Permissible Variations:
Outside Diameter: Within ±1% from the specified diameter.
Wall Thickness: Not more than 12.5% under the specified nominal wall thickness
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): commenly including ultrasonic testing, X-ray inspection to ensure weld integrity and material soundness.
Corrosion Protection: Depending on soil environment, pipes can be coated with FBE (Fusion Bonded Epoxy) or 3LPE (3-Layer Polyethylene) systems for enhanced durability
Primary Applications
ASTM A252 LSAW Steel Pipe Piles are engineered for foundational support in major construction projects:
Building Foundations: Providing stable support for super-large structures where surface soil is loosely packed or insufficient.
Infrastructure Projects: Used in bridges, offshore platforms, and heavy industrial facilities.
Cast-in-Place Concrete Piles: Acting as a permanent cylindrical shell that is subsequently filled with reinforced concrete
