310S Stainless Steel Plate-Sheet
1. What is 310S Stainless Steel?
310S (UNS S31008) is a low-carbon version of the 310 austenitic stainless steel . It is a high-temperature resistant alloy known for its excellent oxidation resistance and creep strength. The "S" stands for "low carbon," which significantly improves its performance during welding and high-temperature service.
This grade advantages: It combines the heat-resistant properties of a high-alloy steel withworkability and weldabilityensured by its low-carbon chemistry (310S). It is the material of choice when projects demand reliability in cyclic high-temperature environments
2. Key Differences: 310 vs. 310S
While both grades are designed for high-temperature applications, the main difference lies in their carbon content:
Grade 310: Contains a higher carbon content (0.25% max), which provides higher strength at elevated temperatures but can lead to sensitization and embrittlement in certain environments.
Grade 310S: Has a lower carbon content (0.08% max). This reduces the risk of carbide precipitation at grain boundaries, offeringbetter resistance to sensitizationand maintaining ductility even after prolonged exposure to high heat.
3. Chemical Composition (Typical %)
The high Chromium and Nickel content gives this steel its "superior" status compared to standard grades like 304.
Chromium (Cr):24.0 - 26.0
Nickel (Ni):19.0 - 22.0
Carbon (C):0.08 max
Manganese (Mn):2.00 max
Silicon (Si):1.50 max
Iron (Fe):Balance
4. Physical & Mechanical Properties
Density:8.0 g/cm³
Melting Point:to 1400 - 1455°C
Tensile Strength (min):515 - 520 MPa
Yield Strength (0.2% offset, min):205 MPa
Elongation (min):40%
Hardness (max):95 HRB
